The History Behind Colon Cleansing
For a long time it was believed that the colon was a hub for everything bad in the body. If it had a fever then it was due to an unclean colon and if the body faced difficulties then the colon was the culprit. These views are seeded much in the past starting with the ancient Egyptian values of colon cleansing which was thought to cure almost any disease in the human body if performed early on. At that time this procedure was performed in the river using a reed to direct water into the rectum. As technology developed more sophisticated methods started to surface.
Towards the start of the 19th century, many devices were created specifically for the purpose of colon hydration or irrigation and it gained in popularity towards the mid-1900s. However, a string of botched up colon cleansing attempt, by unskilled hands led to its early demise. Complications started to arise and the mass population along with the medical community got turned off towards cleaning of the colon.
